چکیده

Interstellar matter is known to be strongly irradiated by radiation and several types of cosmic ray particles. Simulated interstellar matter, such as forsterite Mg2SiO4, enstatite MgSiO3 and magnesite MgCO3 has been irradiated with the Co gamma-rays in liquid nitrogen, and also irradiated with fast neutrons at 10 K and 70 K by making use of the low-temperature irradiation facility of Kyoto University Reactor (KUR-LTL. Maximum fast neutron dose is 1017nf/cm ). After irradiation, samples are stored in liquid nitrogen for several months to allow the decay of induced radioactivity. We measured the luminescence spectra of the gamma ray irradiated samples during warming to 370K using a spectrophotometer. For the forsterite and magnesite, the spectra exhibit a rather intense peak at about 645 – 655 nm and 660 nm respectively, whereas luminescence scarcely appeared in olivine sample. The spectra of forsterite is very similar to the ERE of the Red Rectangle.

Photo - Luminescence and Possible Forsterite nanoparticles Model of Extended Red Emission

the date of receipt and acceptance should be inserted later Abstract. Possible forsterite nanoparticle model of the Extended Red Emission(ERE) is proposed on the basis of photo-luminescence of forsterite after gamma-ray and neutron irradiation. Forsterite exhibits interesting thermoluminescence spectrum similar to ERE of Red Rectangle after irradiation in low temperature. It is shown that the f...

Thermoluminescence characteristics and kinetic analysis of copper doped magnesium sulfate in gamma irradiation

MgSO4:Cu phosphor was synthesized by solid state method. Optimum concentration of copper was determined at 0.1 mol%. Thermoluminescence characteristics of MgSO4:Cu was studied following gamma irradiation. A linear dose response was observed in dose range of 1Gy to 500Gy. Reusability of this sample was tested after 10 cycles of gamma irradiation and it revealed that the intensity remains approxi...

Water Absorption of Chitosan, Collagen and Chitosan/Collagen Blend Membranes Exposed to Gamma-ray Irradiation

TThis study investigated the water absorption of chitosan, collagen, and chitosan/collagen blend membranes exposed to gamma-ray irradiation. These membranes were produced via the solvent evaporation method. All membranes then underwent irradiation at 15 or 25 kGy gamma-ray doses, while membranes without irradiation were used as controls. After immersing the membranes in distilled water for up t...

Solubility of enstatite forsterite in H2O at deep crust/upper mantle conditions: 4 to 15 kbar and 700 to 900°C

Ten reversed brackets of aqueous silica concentration in equilibrium with enstatite (Mg2Si2O6) and forsterite (Mg2SiO4) were determined at 700 to 900°C and 4.35 to 14 kbar. Silica solubilities were measured by a weight loss-weight gain method and by approaching equilibrium from higher and lower silica concentrations. Both single-crystal and fine-grained synthetic enstatite and forsterite starti...

Investigation of neutron flux by thermoluminescence dosimeters in the neutron-gamma mixed field

Introduction: Neutrons have many applications in various fields, such as medicine. The important application of neutron in medical science is in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT). Because of this, determination of neutron dose and flux is critical for the health maintaining of workers and patients exposed to this beam. The neutron radioisotope sources produce gamma rays in ...
